An expanse of California golden poppies
as far as the eye chooses to see.
It must be hundreds now, and yet
I am not satisfied. If I search,
I will find,

I am the poppy blooming,
Turning to dust and seed in the breeze,
I am the poppy,
Timeless symbol of the state, California,
Which I have grown my whole life,
The state, elation,
Wondersome excitement
Which I crave,
I am the poppy wandering to new homes,
New landscapes,
A used prius to drive along gentle dirt roads
In early afternoon while a sprinkle starts,
I am the poppy,

I have found myself,
